Where's my refund?

This is a question on a lot of peoples minds especially mine. I filed my taxes electronically using TaxACT online which you can find here

It was simple and easy. The site asked me for the information, I put it in and then filed online. I received 4 emails, 2 from the state of California and 2 from the IRS, that confirmed my returns had been received and a date in which I could expect my refunds. I filed Feb 4 and according to correspondence I received I would receive my refund from the IRS on Feb 15 or last Friday. On Friday I check the account and there is no money. I go to the IRS website and clicked on Individuals then clicked where's my refund and entered the appropriate information. The result of my query showed that the IRS sent my refund using direct deposit last on Feb 15 but to allow 48-72 hrs and not to call to inquire until Feb 20 or today. After numerous calls to the bank and one call to the IRS, I still do not have my refund.

When I called the IRS an hour ago, the woman I spoke with was quite polite and helpful. She looked up the information on my refund and we verified routing and account numbers. They have the correct routing and account numbers. She then informed me that she would put a trace on my refund but that could take 6-8 weeks. Called the bank back and was told that this has happened to several people and the the most likely scenario is that the money was deposited into the wrong account. The bank blames the IRS the IRS blames the bank and I still have no money. Can you say homicidal type rage? I knew you could. Or to be more candid I am pissed the fuck off. When one is trying to convey a thought or series of thoughts that they would like others to read it is usually considered a inappropriate to use profanity. I understand and usually make an effort to refrain, but today I am profoundly pissed off.

I am sure there are those of you that can understand how I feel and if in my shoes may not show much restraint at all and begin ranting and raving and screaming your head off. I know this because it exactly what my initial reaction was. I wanted to scream, I wanted to curse the bank and the IRS and go on and on about how unfair this is. Sitting in my house where the only person that would me is my girlfriend who is almost as upset as I am. However I realize these actions would accomplish nothing. So I turn to you to ask you if you know of anyone this has happened to and if so to encourage them to send an email to a local news station or newspaper. If anyone has any ideas that could be of use please leave them in the comments as I will checking through out the day. Thank you for your time and have a better day than mine.

Update 3-9-08 I received a letter from the IRS letting me know he bank denied he transaction. Time for the bank to pucker up.
